Bell Gardens Elementary School is being honored as a 2016 California Gold Ribbon School for creating a science program that offers students a chance to conduct regular, hands-on experiments, establishes an annual science fair and provides teachers with a host of resources to keep students engaged.

 

The Gold Ribbon is California’s highest academic honor.

 

The popular program is credited with boosting language acquisition and fluency among English learners, as well as driving attendance to a stellar 97.47 percent.

 

“We felt it was critically important to keep the fire lit for science education at Bell Gardens Elementary,” Principal James L. Sams said. “I’m proud of our teachers’ commitment to this extraordinary program and of our students for embracing it so wholeheartedly.”
